Award Categories

The Tenterfield Business & Tourism Excellence Awards are organised biennially by Tenterfield Shire Council to celebrate and recognise the businesses, events and individuals that make a significant contribution to the Tenterfield community.

This year, there were twelve award categories and businesses were required to nominate themselves. Nominations are now closed. 

The awards presentation was held Thursday 28 November 2019 at the Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School of Arts.

Business of the Year

Awarded $500 radio advertising voucher (courtesy of TenFM), $500 cash prize & plaque 
The Business of the Year recipient will be will be selected from the finalists by a panel of judges and awarded to the overall outstanding business. This award recognises a business that is a leader in successful, sustainable business practices, has strategic business planning and monitoring methods in place, offers quality customer service, provides staff development opportunities and offers innovative solutions.

Event of the Year

Awarded $1,000 newspaper advertising voucher (courtesy of Tenterfield Star) & trophy
This award is open to all business and tourism events. Events may be one-off or recurring and must positively promote the region and community. Business events should reflect the culture and identity of the host organisation, and nominations should demonstrate the event achieved the business outcomes. Tourism events must create a substantial economic impact within the local community and demonstrate the attendance of visitors from out of town.

Apprentice / Trainee of the Year

This award is open for businesses to nominate an apprentice or trainee and recognises the individual’s overall performance demonstrated throughout performance of their current role and responsibilities, education, training,  development, and achievements.

Employee of the Year

Awarded $300 cash & trophy
This award encourages businesses to nominate an employee who has demonstrated exceptional reliability, quality of work, initiative and professionalism. This award recognises the individual’s overall performance.

Excellence in Micro Business

This award recognises a business employing  between 1 and 4 people (can be a non‑employing business), that is able to demonstrate a high standard of customer service, a unique product/service offering, commitment to staff training and development,  excellence in marketing and promotions, and achievement of sustainable business growth.

The Excellence in Sustainability award recognises businesses that are working to reduce the impact of their operations on the environment and/or provide products and services that have positive environmental outcomes.

Disability, Inclusion & Access Award

This Award recognises individuals and organisations who are aware of all of the access needs of people living with disability and cater their business towards these needs. This includes the physical layout of a business, quality customer service, education and training. This award will be judged by members of the Disability Inclusion & Access Committee.
